  • Job Description

    A Sr. Administrator, Databases is responsible for managing performance, integrity and security of computer databases; and codes, tests and implements physical databases within the Voting Tabulation, Voting Registration and Innovations/Web market segments to meet customer requirements.  The DBA makes sure databases have the qualities of data remaining consistent across databases, data is clearly defined, users are able to access data concurrently in a form aligned with needs, and provides for data security and recovery. This position works to coordinate database development as part of a cross functional project team. 

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Identifies database requirements by interviewing stakeholders, analyzing product applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
    1. Recommends solutions by diagnosing and defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, and implementing database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
    1. Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; and coordinating installation requirements.
    1. Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
    1. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
    1. Willingness to do all levels of work when required.  This includes taking on-call support rotation.

    Qualifications:

     

    Education:  Must have a bachelor’s degree in business administration or computer technology field or comparable experience

     

    Experience:          

    At least 8-10  years’ experience including:

    Experience with Oracle database technologies

    Experience with Microsoft SQL Server versions 2012, 2014, and 2016

    Experience with SQL Server Availability Groups

    Strong scripting skills – bash, Power Shell

    SQL Server deployments with Windows Server 2012, 2016

    Backup & Recover best practices

    Licenses/Certifications Required:  Oracle Certified Database Professional, MCSA: SQL

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

     

    Work Environment:  This job operates in a professional office environment which routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and photocopiers.

    Travel:  Approximately 5% travel is expected.
