Job Description

As the Director of Software Development - Embedded Firmware, you will provide leadership and management for an embedded software team in areas of hardware, drivers, security frameworks and applications running on embedded devices, working closely with architects to drive and establish technical direction and vision.   This position requires broad engineering competence and in-depth knowledge of embedded software development, as well as demonstrated experience successfully planning, organizing and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment. The Director will partner and collaborate with product managers, project managers, software managers, hardware engineers and other internal and external resources. The incumbent will also need to have an established background in excellent management skills, proven success in building, managing, mentoring, and retaining a team of high performers; great communication skills and motivation to achieve results on schedule.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for leading development engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach; that meets all technical, cost and schedule objectives for current and future product offerings.
  2. Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules.
  3. Recruit, engage and retain top-tier development and engineering staff.
  4. Lead, evaluate and manage the engagement, cultural fit, and career development of team members.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders.
  6. In collaboration with pertinent stakeholders, prepare and manage plans to achieve development objectives. Plans shall include objectives, milestones, assignments of ownership, expense forecasts and staffing requirements and be delivered in a manner that thoughtfully balances speed, cost, risk and scope.
  7. Work with internal departments and outside partners to assist with technical problem solving and other customer centric priorities.
  8. Work collaboratively with internal and external hardware engineers and
  9. Lead efforts to provide Tier 3 technical and production support, assistance, and troubleshooting for customers and internal associates.

Qualifications:

 

Education:  Must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information systems or equivalent computer technology field.

 

Experience:          

Minimum 10 years experience including:

Significant hands-on embedded firmware and/or software development experience

Advanced knowledge of development methodologies applicable to current company projects

Experience working with various development methodologies including Waterfall, Agile, Scrum and Kan Ban

Thorough understanding of source code control tools and processes

Thorough understanding of quality assurance processes, including automated testing

Thorough understanding of both structured and object-oriented languages and development techniques

Experience working with various operating system environments.

Experience with C++, HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript.

Experience working in a highly regulated environment preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position has supervisory responsibilities for Software Engineers, Developers and Technicians as assigned to area of focus.

 

Work Environment:  This job operates in a professional office environment which routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and photocopiers.

Travel:  Approximately up to 10% travel is expected.
